Biography

Andy Beck grew up in Milwaukee with a father at Briggs & Stratton and a mother working for Milwaukee Public Schools.1 Both were union members, and his grandfather and uncles were also involved in the city's labor movement.1 Beck has been a union member himself.1

His career has included waiting tables and hospitality management, followed by retraining as an MRI technologist.1 He later joined GE Healthcare in Waukesha, leading product development while raising a family and earning an MBA at Cardinal Stritch University.1 He now lives in West Bend.1

Beck is the Democrat seeking to replace Republican Representative Scott Fitzgerald in Wisconsin's 5th District.2 His platform calls for preserving Social Security and opposing an increase in the eligibility age, protecting reproductive rights nationwide and strengthening Medicare and Medicaid.23 He also supports stronger mental health services and medical, housing and mental health assistance for veterans.3

His education proposals include free trade school programs to help people move into new careers.3 He supports unions, manufacturing employment, conservation and climate action.3 His housing agenda aims to help younger and displaced Americans find affordable homes while building equity, and he says data center development should protect local communities and benefit Wisconsin workers.3

Committee filing notices

The FEC's October 29 filings view listed preprimary, October quarterly and pregeneral notices for Beck's committee.4 Its October 23 letter warned that the committee might have failed to provide a complete pregeneral report and requested immediate filing.5 Beck had responded to the earlier preprimary notice on August 2, saying his committee had not raised or spent more than $5,000 by that report's coverage endpoint.6 The October 29 table did not show the three underlying financial reports; a final public agency disposition was not verified.4
