Biography
April Verlato grew up in Arcadia, opened her law practice there and raised her family in the same community.1 During her time as mayor, connecting with residents included coffee gatherings and mahjong, alongside the ordinary work of council meetings and neighborhood projects.1
She graduated from Arcadia High School, studied political science at UCLA and earned her law degree at Southwestern. Her professional background includes running her own law office, while her elected service began on Arcadia's council in 2016.2
Her local record includes establishing a resident financial advisory committee to address unfunded pension obligations, working on historic preservation and residential design rules, securing support for homelessness services and helping bring festivals to downtown Arcadia. She also advocated reopening spreading basins to replenish the local aquifer.1
Verlato's published congressional positions emphasize job creation, stronger border security, fiscal restraint and protecting Proposition 13's tax provisions. She also supports more veterans' clinics and a major medical facility in the San Gabriel Valley.2 The Republican faces Democratic incumbent Judy Chu, whose career includes teaching, local and state government and congressional work on health care, taxes and small businesses.34
