Biography
Before Congress, Austin Scott spent nearly twenty years owning and running an insurance brokerage, a career that followed his risk management and insurance degree at the University of Georgia.1 He and his wife, Vivien, make their home in Tifton and have three children.1
Born in Augusta, Scott served in the Georgia House from 1997 to 2010 before entering Congress in 2011.2 His current assignments span Agriculture, Armed Services, Intelligence and Rules, placing farm policy, military readiness and the House's legislative process within his regular work.1
Scott is vice chairman of the Agriculture Committee and chairs its Subcommittee on General Farm Commodities, Risk Management and Credit.1 His stated priorities include stronger crop insurance and disaster assistance, agricultural export access and rural broadband.1 He also serves as a co chairman of the Congressional Crop Insurance Caucus.1 On defense, he works with military leaders on the missions at Robins and Moody Air Force bases.1
He faces Democrat Kelly Esti in Georgia's 8th District, which includes parts of middle and south Georgia such as Coffee, Tift and Colquitt counties.2 Scott is seeking another term on a conservative platform of lower spending, reduced debt, gun rights and opposition to abortion, alongside support for farmers and veterans.2
