Presidential pardon for January 6 committee work

On January 20, 2025, President Joe Biden issued a preemptive pardon covering Thompson's work on the House committee investigating the January 6 attack.56 Biden said he sought to protect public servants from politically motivated prosecutions and explicitly said the pardons should not be read as acknowledgments of wrongdoing.6 Thompson and former committee vice chair Liz Cheney thanked Biden and said their committee service had upheld the law.5
