Meyer spent twenty five years in manufacturing, with work ranging from sensor and electronics assembly to machining, heat treatment and plating.1 He also held management positions.1 In 2016, he became a Navy civilian engineer and spent nine years working on electromagnetic warfare systems intended to protect sailors from missile attacks.1 He left that job to run for Congress.2

The Democratic nominee faces Republican incumbent Erin Houchin in Indiana's 9th District.2 He says he has never held elected office.3 His campaign has included public question sessions, with a September Bloomington town hall listed as the twenty third stop on his tour.4 At an Indiana University student forum, he offered a joking apology for being a Purdue graduate.5

His platform calls for Medicare for All, a $20 national minimum wage and making the first $20,000 of income free of federal income tax.2.6 He supports expanded overtime eligibility and stronger union organizing protections under the PRO Act.6 He also favors investment in broadband, physical infrastructure and vocational training.6 He proposes a constitutional amendment barring federal elected officials from their next election if a balanced budget is not passed by October 1.3
