Biography
Dan Green grew up in Indian River County, the son of an Army veteran and a schoolteacher.1 He was working at the Pentagon during the September 11 attacks, an experience he says strengthened his resolve to join the Navy.1 In an October 2026 questionnaire, he described himself as a Navy Reserve captain with 23 years of service.2
Green studied political science and history at American University, earned a master's in international affairs at Florida State and later completed a doctorate in political science at George Washington University.34 His work included Navy deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan and a civilian State Department assignment advising a provincial reconstruction team in southern Afghanistan.5
From 2019 to 2021, he served as deputy assistant secretary of defense for strategy and force development, working on defense planning and the military capabilities needed for different threats.35 He also coauthored Fallujah Redux with Marine officer William Mullen, an account of the 2007 campaign against the al Qaeda insurgency in Iraq.4
Now the Republican nominee against Darren Soto, Green says lower prices require fewer regulations, greater competition and more support for American manufacturers and farmers.2 He supports the federal ROAD to Housing legislation as a way to increase homebuilding and reduce housing costs.2 He also calls for balancing the budget, stronger oversight of federal agencies and military readiness focused on deterring China.2
