Gay Valimont

Valimont worked as an athletic trainer in Atlanta before moving to Pensacola with her family.

Biography

Gay Valimont worked in sports medicine before becoming a gun violence prevention organizer and, later, a congressional candidate.1 She and her husband moved to Pensacola after their son was born in 2012.1 In 2020, her husband was diagnosed with ALS and their son with a terminal brain tumor; she cared for both before their deaths.1

She earned a health and exercise science degree at Georgia Southern University and a master's in education at Troy State University.1 In Atlanta, she worked as an athletic trainer at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and Emory Sports Medicine.1 By 2016, she was devoting her full time to volunteering with Moms Demand Action, which included serving as its Florida state lead.1

Valimont challenged Matt Gaetz in 2024, then ran in the special election following his resignation.1 Republican Jimmy Patronis won that April 2025 contest.2 She subsequently qualified again as a Democrat for the November 2026 election, making this another contest for the same Northwest Florida seat.3

Her current platform emphasizes lowering insurance costs, expanding access to healthcare and establishing a hospital providing a full range of VA services for the area's veterans.4 She also names public safety, public schools and economic opportunities for working families among her concerns.1
