Jamie Davis

Jamie Davis says he farms land his grandfather once worked as a sharecropper.¹ A third generation farmer from Waterproof, he lives in Ferriday with his wife, Brenda, near his children and grandchildren.² He was born in Houston and returned to the Louisiana Delta as a child, attending public schools before college.²

He studied electrical engineering at Louisiana State University, then returned home to Davis Farms, the family operation his father founded in 1977.² The farm covers more than 2,000 acres and produces sorghum, corn, soybeans and cotton.² In describing his qualifications, Davis points to building a business and meeting a payroll.¹

Davis won a seat on the Tensas Parish Police Jury in 2015, serving four years, including service as its vice president.² Despite its name, the Police Jury is the parish's governing body.³ He later ran for the state House and now serves on the Democratic State Central Committee.²⁴

His health proposals include maintaining Affordable Care Act subsidies, protecting Medicaid, lowering prescription costs and creating a Medicare option available to all Americans.² He also backs stronger public schools, competitive teacher pay and affordable vocational training.² He faces Republican Representative Julia Letlow in the contest to replace Senator Bill Cassidy.⁴
