Biography
Jason Gibbs met his wife, Chandra, while working toward his master's degree at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. They settled in Santa Clarita, where they are raising two children.12 A 2018 campaign profile linked his interest in local politics to becoming a father and his worries about his children's future.1
His engineering career has involved equipment that supports rocket launches, including the Delta II, Delta IV and Atlas V programs. With bachelor's and master's degrees in mechanical engineering, he specialized in the design, maintenance and integrity of ground support systems.2
Gibbs joined Santa Clarita's council in 2020 and served as mayor in 2023. His community involvement has included the Boys and Girls Club, Valley Industry Association and local education organizations.2 He describes fiscal responsibility, job retention and public safety as priorities carried from city government into his congressional campaign.3
His federal platform calls for opposing new taxes, making energy more affordable, strengthening border enforcement and supporting police and first responders. He also favors more local control over housing and schools, greater parental involvement and expanded technical education.3 The Republican is challenging Democratic incumbent George Whitesides, a former NASA chief of staff and Virgin Galactic executive whose work also centers on aerospace, economic opportunity and the wildfire crisis.4
