Biography
John Duresky likes to remind voters that he could be fishing. A retired Air Force major, he says concern about working families drew him away from a quieter retirement and into his first campaign.1 He lives in West Richland and has two adult children with his wife, Robin.2
His 24 years in the Air Force began with bomber electronics and later included service as a cyberspace officer. He subsequently worked in information technology and project controls.2 His first military posting brought him to Fairchild Air Force Base, and his later federal career included five years at Hanford, working on budgets, projects and contract transitions.1
Duresky accepted an early retirement offer during the 2025 federal workforce reductions and decided to run for Congress.2 He argues that Hanford employees and other federal workers need protection from politically motivated dismissals, alongside stronger safeguards for whistleblowers.3
His platform calls for protecting Medicaid and Medicare, expanding insurance subsidies, keeping rural hospitals open and improving veterans' care. He also supports irrigation access, agricultural labor, stronger union rights and an end to tariffs he argues hurt farmers.3 The Democrat faces Republican county commissioner Amanda McKinney in the open Fourth District race, where both candidates are seeking their first term in Congress.2
