Knickerbocker followed her grandmother into nursing, working several jobs to put herself through school.
Biography
Kristina Knickerbocker followed her grandmother into nursing, paying her way through school with multiple jobs before joining the Air Force.1 She remembers volunteering at food pantries with her family as a child, and now lives near Yellow Springs with her husband, Bret, and their two young children.1
The military brought her to the Miami Valley, where she served as a nurse and major with the 88th Air Base Wing at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.1 She later moved to the 445th Aeromedical Staging Squadron and worked as an oncology nurse practitioner at Ohio State while serving in the Reserve.1 Her responsibilities included team leadership on medical care for service members and military families, and preparation for military and humanitarian missions.1
Knickerbocker says serious complications during pregnancy and her second delivery reinforced her concern about patients being heard by medical professionals.1 Her congressional platform calls for universal coverage, a public insurance option, protections for existing federal health programs and restrictions on the use of medical debt in credit reporting.2 She also proposes a congressional stock trading ban, term limits and limits on former lawmakers becoming lobbyists.2
She is challenging Republican Mike Turner, whose campaign emphasizes national security and Dayton area jobs, while hers stresses health care and affordability.3 She promises to protect and expand Wright-Patterson, fund veterans' care and make companies pay for data center infrastructure rather than passing those costs to households.2
