Laura Friedman
Friedman spent years around pool tables, playing semiprofessionally while building a career in film and television.
Biography
Laura Friedman worked in film and television while playing pool semiprofessionally, spending long evenings in New York billiard rooms before moving into Hollywood production. She discovered the game while working at the University of Rochester's student recreation room.1
She later settled in Glendale, where she lives with her husband, Guillaume, a landscape architect and former film editor, and their daughter. A breast cancer diagnosis helped prompt her turn toward public service.1 Her political career began on Glendale's council and included service as mayor before the California Assembly.2
In Sacramento, Friedman worked on transportation, housing, water conservation and environmental policy. Her record includes local funding for the Glendale Riverwalk, library improvements and Griffith Park safety, alongside leadership of reforms to the legislature's sexual harassment response. She now serves on the House transportation and science committees.2
Her current priorities include affordable housing, clean water, wildfire and disaster protection, and an economy offering broader opportunity.2 The Democrat faces Republican attorney Scott Meyers for another term in the Thirtieth District. His campaign emphasizes lower taxes and regulation, stronger border enforcement, public safety and bringing film and television production jobs back to California.3
