Mike Bouchard is an Army veteran who shares a name with his father, Oakland County's longtime sheriff.1 His grandfather served during World War II and then spent 33 years at General Motors, eventually retiring from a Warren facility.2 Bouchard describes himself as a third generation Michigander whose family history spans military service, policing and manufacturing.2
He graduated from Michigan State University's ROTC program and served in the Army's 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions.1 His assignments included Iraq and the southern border, and his November 2025 campaign announcement followed an Iraq deployment earlier that year.1 His military career has encompassed nearly a decade in uniform.2
Bouchard also served as an operations chief for a Michigan Army National Guard infantry battalion and on a joint task force fighting ISIS.3 Local reporting identifies him as a Bronze Star recipient and National Guard captain.4 With Donald Trump's endorsement, he won the Republican nomination in August for the seat being vacated by John James.4
His platform supports completing the border wall, reviving the Remain in Mexico policy, reducing business regulation and encouraging Michigan manufacturing.2 He also promises to protect Medicare and Social Security, increase healthcare price transparency and strengthen parents' involvement in education.2 His November 3 opponent is Democrat Christina Hines in an open race spanning Macomb and Oakland county communities.5
