Rick Larsen
Larsen grew up in Arlington in a household of eight children.
Biography
Rick Larsen grew up in Arlington as one of eight children, with a father who worked on power lines and a mother who kept the family books. He says their example helped shape his interest in community service.1 He and his wife, Tiia, have two adult sons.2
Larsen graduated from Pacific Lutheran University and earned a master's degree at the University of Minnesota. His earlier employers included the Port of Everett and Washington State Dental Association, before he served on the Snohomish County Council.3
First elected to Congress in 2000, he has built a federal career around transportation, infrastructure and the Northwest economy.4 As the senior Democrat on Transportation and Infrastructure, he advocates investment in roads, transit and other networks, alongside protection of salmon habitat, public lands and Southern Resident killer whales.2
His 2026 campaign emphasizes housing affordability and lower energy costs. He calls for more housing and local infrastructure investment, opposing tariffs he argues raise household prices.5 He also supports opioid treatment and prevention.2 His campaign calls for accountability for immigration agents.1 Larsen is seeking another term against Republican Edwin Feller, whose background is in heating and air conditioning and whose campaign calls for lower taxes, smaller government and stronger border enforcement.6
