Biography
Scott Meyers grew up with a schoolteacher and a minister for parents and began working at fourteen. He ran track at Simi Valley High School and describes personal responsibility, discipline and faith in the country as influences that have stayed with him.1
He studied political science at UCLA and law at Pepperdine before building a long career as a civil attorney and small business owner. His public biography describes nearly four decades practicing law, including providing free legal services to people who needed help.1 His campaign also describes his support for an effort to recall Los Angeles councilmember Nithya Raman.1
Away from work, Meyers enjoys cooking, hiking and competitive Scrabble, and is godfather to twin girls.1 His campaign links his experience running a business to proposals for lower taxes, less regulation, reduced federal spending and more domestic energy production.2
He also favors stronger border enforcement, support for police, scrutiny of homelessness spending and California's rail project, and policies encouraging film and television production to remain in the United States. Education proposals stress core academic skills and parental involvement.2 Meyers faces Democratic incumbent Laura Friedman, a former film executive, Glendale mayor and state legislator whose current work includes housing, transportation, environmental protection and disaster preparedness.3
