Seth Harp
Harp now teaches seventh grade civics in Gainesville after more than 25 years in broadcasting.
Biography
Seth Harp teaches seventh grade civics at Lincoln Middle School in Gainesville, covering government, citizenship and civic responsibility with students who are still years from voting.1 His parents worked in nursing and teaching, and his campaign biography also describes military service among several generations of his family.1
Before the classroom, Harp spent more than 25 years in broadcasting.1 He began hosting a talk show at WKZO in Kalamazoo, Michigan, at 23, then worked as a program director, operations manager, station manager and host across six states.1 His biography says he has managed nine radio stations and media organizations since 2001.1 In the 1990s, he volunteered to help voters arrange transportation to polling places.1
After moving to Florida, he worked as operations manager at ESPN Gainesville and as an adjunct professor in the University of Florida's College of Journalism and Communications.1 He is now the Democratic nominee challenging Republican Kat Cammack for Florida's 3rd Congressional District.2
His platform combines proposals for affordable housing and healthcare with changes to government accountability.2 He proposes higher taxes on large corporate purchases of homes, incentives for affordable construction and stronger protections against utility costs being shifted from data centers to residential customers.2 He also supports improved teacher pay and access to career and technical education.2
