Annie Andrews

Annie Andrews is raising three children in Charleston public schools after spending 14 years treating children at MUSC Children's Hospital.¹² Born in Paducah, Kentucky, and raised in Indianapolis, she earned her undergraduate degree at Dayton, her medical degree at Cincinnati and a master's in clinical research at MUSC.²

She moved to the Lowcountry in 2009 after completing her pediatrics residency in Cincinnati, working as a hospitalist caring for children admitted to the hospital.² Andrews says the hospital brought her face to face with children injured by guns, teenagers struggling with mental health and parents struggling to afford medicine, experiences that pushed her toward public advocacy.¹³

Her first campaign was for the House in 2022, when she lost to Republican Nancy Mace.² In 2023, she helped establish Their Future, an advocacy effort and affiliated political action committee focused on children's issues.⁴ She has also researched ways to prevent pediatric firearm injuries.²

Her health plan calls for reversing Medicaid cuts, restoring expanded Affordable Care Act premium subsidies and letting Medicare negotiate prices for more prescription drugs.⁵ Affordable child care, public schools and reproductive freedom are also campaign priorities.³ She faces Republican Senator Darline Graham for the seat previously held by Graham's late brother, Lindsey.⁶
