Biography
Arthur Purves and his late wife, Carol, moved to Vienna in 1976 and raised two children who attended Fairfax County public schools.1 He became a familiar school volunteer as president of his son's lacrosse boosters at Marshall High School and his daughter's crew boosters at Thomas Jefferson High School.1
Purves grew up in Washington and earned undergraduate and business degrees at the University of Pennsylvania.1 He worked as a computer programmer for forty years before retirement.1 His volunteer work includes teaching English and basic computing to people learning English, and he holds an amateur radio license.1
He has led the Fairfax County Taxpayers Alliance for twenty nine years and regularly attends county and school budget proceedings.1 His local service includes school advisory committees, the county's meals tax task force and the Hunter Mill Citizen Budget Committee.1
Purves supports lower taxes and school vouchers, and argues that nutrition and disease prevention should be central to reducing federal healthcare spending.1 He is challenging Democratic incumbent James Walkinshaw, with Green candidate Dianne Blais also running.2 This is the first regular House election since Walkinshaw won the 2025 special election to finish the late Gerry Connolly's term.3
