Bernadette Greene-Placentia

Greene-Placentia spent 27 years driving long haul trucks, logging more than four million miles and building a trucking business of her own.

Biography

Bernadette Greene-Placentia spent 27 years driving long haul trucks and operating a small trucking business, a career that took her around the country.1 Raised in rural Wyoming and Nebraska, she is an adoptive mother and has made the experience of running a business and managing household bills central to her congressional campaign.23

Her working life included driving, managing a small fleet and handling the financial and operational demands of a business.4 She subsequently worked as a campaign manager and volunteered in local politics, and describes herself as a Democrat willing to disagree with her own party.1

Greene-Placentia's platform includes protections for independent truck owners and drivers, including action against predatory lease purchase arrangements.3 She also proposes supporting small businesses, protecting Social Security and Medicare, reducing prescription costs and improving access to health care in rural communities, linking those priorities to the financial pressures she describes from her working life.3

She supports abortion rights, public schools, union organizing, stronger border security and recognition of the economy's need for legal workers.1 Her campaign also calls for better veterans' care and more opportunities through community colleges and apprenticeships.3 She faces Republican incumbent Abraham Hamadeh for the Eighth District's House seat.1
