Biography
Blake Miguez and his wife, Ashley, a special education teacher, are raising four children.1 He earned Eagle Scout rank as a teenager and later became a competitive marksman, appearing on History's television series Top Shot.1 He also points to his grandfather, who built a business with a fourth grade education, as an early example.1
An LSU graduate, Miguez works in his family's oil and gas business, which he says he expanded into Baton Rouge more than a decade ago.2 His campaign describes business operations across Louisiana and more than 25 years of homeownership in Baton Rouge.2
Miguez was elected to the Louisiana Senate in 2023 after serving in the state House, where he held the Republican majority leader position.1 His 2024 Senate Bill 1 became Act 1, allowing eligible people to carry concealed handguns without a state permit.3 The law took effect on July 4, 2024.3
For Congress, he emphasizes reducing taxes and regulation, supporting Louisiana's energy industry, border enforcement and gun rights.2 He also calls for reducing everyday costs, including electricity, insurance and groceries, and creating jobs that keep young adults in Louisiana.2 His opponents include Rick Edmonds and Chauna Banks.4 The November 3 open primary can lead to a December 12 runoff.5
Record and controversies
State Senate residency complaint
A September 2026 complaint challenged Miguez's state Senate domicile; congressional opponent Rick Edmonds publicized it.6 WBRZ reported on October 1 that the attorney general's office issued an opinion finding his domicile remained in Senate District 22 despite his Baton Rouge house.7 His campaign called the complaint unfounded.7 Federal House membership requires state residence when elected, rather than residence in the particular congressional district.8
