Biography

Bryan Steil likes taking photographs on bicycle rides through southeastern Wisconsin, a hobby he discussed in a 2023 interview about life beyond committee hearings.1 The Janesville native also recalled a Ben Folds Five concert at Washington's 9:30 Club as a favorite live show.1

After Georgetown, he spent a year in Paul Ryan's congressional office, starting as an intern and answering phones before handling legislative work.1 He earned a University of Wisconsin law degree and spent more than a decade working for manufacturers in southeastern Wisconsin before winning Ryan's open seat in 2018.2 /),3 His public experience also includes appointment to the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents in 2016.3

Steil now chairs the House Administration Committee and the Financial Services subcommittee on digital assets, financial technology and artificial intelligence.3 One specific piece of his legislative work is the STABLE Act, introduced in March 2025 to create a framework for payment stablecoins.4 The Financial Services Committee advanced the proposal by a 32 to 17 vote in April 2025.5

For another term, he emphasizes reducing household costs and taxes, stronger border enforcement, support for police and protections for Social Security and Medicare.3 He faces Democratic emergency nurse Mitchell Berman in a district attracting national attention as both parties compete for the House majority.6 Their debate placed the cost of living at the center, with Steil advocating tax relief and Berman tariff repeal.7
