Chris Chaffee

Chris Chaffee is a builder, farmer and small business owner who describes himself as a father, grandfather and son of a veteran.¹ A New York native, he grew up in Prince George's County and later made his home in Calvert County.² He identifies his Catholic faith and conservative beliefs as central to his political outlook.¹

Chaffee has sought federal office before, winning the Republican primary for the 5th District seat in 2014.² That campaign placed him against longtime Democratic Congressman Steny Hoyer.² In 2022, he was the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate against Chris Van Hollen.³ His current campaign returns him to the House district he previously contested.⁴

He supports voter identification requirements and proposes an immigration sponsorship system involving churches, businesses or individuals.¹ Under his proposal, families would leave the country for vetting before returning through a legal process, with sponsors responsible for monitoring their work status and appearances.¹ He favors outside accountants reviewing safety net programs for fraud and waste.¹

On household costs, Chaffee wants closed coal plants reopened with upgraded equipment and local rules that make housing construction easier.¹ He supports expanded childcare tax credits and workforce training for artificial intelligence.¹ In foreign affairs, he favors supporting military families and treating war as a last resort.¹ He faces Democrat Adrian Boafo.⁴
