Biography
Chris Chung describes a childhood shaped by losing his father at three and being raised by his mother as the youngest of five children. His father was a police inspector.1 His wife's work has included classical piano and church organ, while their three children have pursued education and medicine.1
Chung's education included Korea Air Force Academy and Chung-Ang University in Seoul. He graduated from St. John's University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in New York.2 His working life has centered on community pharmacy: his 2024 voter statement described thirty years as a Washington pharmacist and ownership of a pharmacy since 1994.2
His earlier campaigns included the Democratic primary for state insurance commissioner in 2024 and the Federal Way mayoral primary in 2025.21 In the latter campaign, he identified health, public safety and education as priorities, drawing on decades of pharmacy work and his family's public service background.1
In his insurance commissioner campaign, Chung argued that the office should protect patients, their families and access to insurance.2 He is now the Republican challenger to Democratic incumbent Marilyn Strickland for the Tenth District's House seat.3 Strickland's record includes two terms as Tacoma mayor and congressional work on military families, housing and infrastructure.45
