Biography
Chris Pappas and his husband, Vann, live in Manchester and enjoy running, competitive board games and spending time with their extended family.1 Before Congress, he helped run his family's Puritan Backroom restaurant, continuing a business rooted in his Greek immigrant family's history.12
He graduated from Manchester Central High School and earned his Harvard degree in 2002.2 He served in New Hampshire's House from 2003 to 2007, then as Hillsborough County treasurer from 2007 to 2011.2 Three terms on the Executive Council followed, before he entered Congress in 2019 representing the 1st District.2
In the House, Pappas supported the 2025 HALT Fentanyl Act, which permanently placed substances meeting its fentanyl related definition in Schedule I.34 In 2026, he and Representative Maggie Goodlander introduced the Turn the Tide Act.5 That proposal would increase addiction treatment funding, require insurance coverage of naloxone without copayments and reduce insurance barriers to medication based treatment.5
His Senate agenda calls for restoring enhanced Affordable Care Act tax credits, helping communities build more housing and supporting tax relief for new homebuyers.6 He also seeks an expanded child tax credit and measures to reimburse small businesses for tariffs.6 He faces Republican John Sununu on November 3 for the seat opening with Democratic Senator Jeanne Shaheen's retirement.7
