Colby Watson

Colby Watson's first job was in masonry.¹ Born and raised in Union County, he finished high school through homeschooling and went straight into construction and farming work instead of college.¹ He recalls growing up in a family that did not always have health insurance.²

He married at 23, and he and his wife have two children.¹ Around 25, he began planning to work for himself and has since spent more than a decade as a business owner.¹ WFAE identifies his work as federal contracting and reports that he built a business with his brother.³ His own account describes responsibilities including making payroll and hiring employees.¹

Watson has not previously held elected office.³ His healthcare proposals include stronger antitrust enforcement, protecting independent doctors and rural hospitals, and lowering prescription prices and administrative costs.² He supports higher teacher pay, full special education funding and local control of school decisions.⁴ Supporting farmers is another priority.³

On housing, he proposes restrictions on large investors buying homes, fewer construction barriers and support for starter homes and first time buyers.⁵ He pledges to reject money from corporate and foreign interest lobbyists and to avoid buying or selling stocks while serving in Congress.³ He challenges Republican incumbent Mark Harris.³
