Cable learned to grow food in his family's backyard, while his grandmother ran Marion's Dairy Bar cafe.
Biography
Conrad Cable grew up in Marion, where his grandmother owned the Dairy Bar café.1 He recalls learning to grow vegetables with relatives and packing produce with his mother for delivery to elderly neighbors who could not get to the store.1
He describes himself as a first generation farmer, now working full time in Union Parish.1 Cable graduated from the University of Louisiana Monroe in 2017.1 After losing his job during the pandemic, he and his brother built a small farm in Union Parish.1 His account describes early crop failures and lean winters, followed by studying business practices and sustainable agriculture as they worked to keep the farm going.1
In May 2026, Cable sought to join other candidates in a federal challenge to Louisiana's suspension of spring congressional primaries.2 The state subsequently adopted a November open primary for House races, with a December runoff if needed.3 His campaign emphasizes protecting health coverage and addressing food insecurity alongside raising wages.4
Cable faces fellow Democrat Matt Gromlich and Republicans Mike Johnson, Gordon Heslop and Mike Nichols.5 He supports Medicare for All, a higher minimum wage that increases with inflation, stronger union rights and better pay protections for tipped restaurant workers.4 He also argues for protecting Medicare and Medicaid as foundations of family health security.1
