Biography

Dan Barrios grew up in Brownsville, where his mother struggled to make ends meet, before building a life in North Texas.1 His volunteering has included the PTA, YMCA and church, along with American Red Cross work after the 2015 Garland and Rowlett tornado.1

He earned an MBA in strategic management from the University of North Texas and worked in executive sales before teaching business courses at the high school and college levels.1 He has also mentored people in state jails, describing that work as helping them prepare for another chance outside prison.1

Barrios won a Richardson council seat in 2023 and announced his resignation in July 2026 to seek another office.2 His successor was sworn in in September, so his congressional candidacy follows service in local government.3 He described starting Breakfast with Barrios, cooking and meeting residents in front yards at 8 a.m.2

His campaign proposes stronger consumer protections, more affordable health care and support for working families.4 On public safety, he favors funding law enforcement alongside mental health treatment, youth programs and reentry services, and supports universal gun background checks.5 He also proposes expanding Victims of Crime Act and Violence Against Women Act funding for legal, housing and counseling support.5 Republican Jace Yarbrough is his opponent for the 32nd District, offering voters different approaches to gun laws and public spending.657
