Daniel Butierez
Butierez grew up in Tucson and spent years working on painting crews before starting Butierez Painting in 2017.
Biography
Daniel Butierez grew up in Tucson in a family with Arizona roots reaching back to the 1800s.1 He spent decades working for painting companies, including ten years at Card Express Painting, before starting Butierez Painting in 2017 and making the transition from employee to business owner.1
Butierez says he began leading painting crews at 21 and draws on the experience of earning a paycheck and managing a business in explaining his campaign.1 He describes his goal as representing residents across party lines, rather than treating agreement with a representative as a condition of being heard.1
On immigration, he supports ICE and stronger enforcement against violent crime, trafficking and people ordered removed, while saying that enforcement must respect due process.2 He also supports the proposed Dignity Act, combining additional border security with broader immigration changes and a legal pathway for people who qualify, along with faster case processing and more immigration judges.2
His questionnaire supports federal school choice tax credits, restrictions on federal funding for abortion providers and stronger penalties for illicit drug distribution and human trafficking.1 He is challenging Democratic incumbent Adelita Grijalva in his third consecutive campaign for the Seventh District, following their 2025 special election contest.2
Record and controversies
Conviction vacated
Arizona Luminaria reported that Butierez received a ten year prison sentence after a 1994 probation revocation in a 1992 marijuana case.3 Its corrected June 2025 report said a judge voided and vacated the conviction in 2020, finding clear and convincing evidence that he was convicted of an offense he did not commit.3 Butierez told the newsroom he had spent years fighting to fix his record.3
