Biography
Doug Chapin spent ten years at the University of Minnesota's Humphrey School helping train people who administer elections, founding its online election administration certificate program.1 His current campaign biography describes him as a widower with three adult children, living in Hanover.1
Chapin earned his undergraduate degree in politics at Princeton, a master's in public administration at Harvard's Kennedy School and a law degree at Georgetown.2 He practiced election and ethics law and served as elections counsel to Senate Rules Committee Democrats from 1997 to 2000.2
He later led election initiatives at The Pew Charitable Trusts, where his team's work included military and overseas voting reform, improvements to voter registration and partnerships to provide official voting information online.2 He founded electionline.org in 2001, a clearinghouse for election administration news.3 He is now a founding partner of Sweater Vest Strategies, a Minnesota policy research and advocacy firm.3
Chapin supports Medicare for All, removing Social Security's cap on taxable wages and making immigration and citizenship procedures clearer and faster.4 He also favors expanding the House of Representatives to create smaller districts and strengthening Congress's authority over spending, tariffs and decisions to go to war.4 His environmental agenda includes protecting the Boundary Waters and returning the United States to the Paris climate agreement.4
