Drew Williams
Williams has spent nearly two decades building boat docks with family businesses on Kentucky Lake.
Biography
Drew Williams started building boat docks at fourteen, working on Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley while eventually attending Murray State University.1 His account of the trade includes worn drill bits, roofs installed in intense heat and boats that went down full of tools.1 His dock building work has also expanded into four surrounding states, according to his campaign biography.1
A Marshall County native, Williams graduated in 2016 with a history degree and biology minor, continuing to work in family businesses.1 His wife is a public school teacher, and the couple have worked on revitalizing their hometown fair.2
Williams' campaign highlights his work on Benton's historic Tater Day spring festival as an example of his community involvement.3 In his current campaign, he proposes more support for rural infrastructure, mobile medical clinics, senior services and childcare, with the aim of rebuilding services in smaller communities.2
The Democrat faces Republican incumbent James Comer in Kentucky's 1st District.2 Williams supports a moratorium on data centers while stronger rules are developed, and restrictions on artificial intelligence that would displace workers.2 He also proposes congressional term limits, restrictions on individual stock trading by lawmakers and their families, and a lifetime ban on paid lobbying by former members.4
