Biography
Dwayne Romero began folding laundry at his family's apartment complex at 12, helping a single mother make ends meet.1 Baseball later brought him to West Point, and he and his wife, Margaret, a longtime kindergarten teacher, raised three daughters in Colorado.1
Romero served seven years as an Army engineer officer, graduated from Ranger School and served in the Persian Gulf War before returning to civilian life in Colorado.1 His military assignments included Fort Carson, and his subsequent community work included nine years coaching a local high school baseball team.1
He built a property management business on the Western Slope and has served on the Aspen City Council, local school board and Colorado Economic Development Commission.2 His broader public service also includes local fire, transit and water boards and work as economic development director in Governor John Hickenlooper's administration.1
Romero is challenging Republican incumbent Jeff Hurd in the Third District, with rural health care and affordability at the center of his campaign.32 He wants to reverse Medicaid reductions in the 2025 tax and spending law, preserve health care funding and change immigration enforcement while investing in asylum processing, courts and broader immigration legislation.2
