Emily Randall

Randall grew up in Port Orchard with a shipyard worker father and an educator mother.

Biography

For Emily Randall, Medicaid was a family concern long before it became a legislative one. Her younger sister, Olivia, had complex medical needs, and the program helped cover care her parents could not otherwise have afforded.1 Randall grew up in Port Orchard, the oldest of three children, with a shipyard worker father and an educator mother.2

Financial aid, retail shifts and waiting tables helped her become the first in her family to graduate from college. She built a nonprofit career supporting access to education and health care, including work at Planned Parenthood beginning in 2016.2 She says Donald Trump's first presidential victory helped motivate her decision to run for office.2

Randall won her first state Senate race by 102 votes and later became deputy majority leader. Her state record includes work expanding postpartum Medicaid coverage, ending subminimum wages for workers with disabilities and improving apprenticeship opportunities.2 She now represents the Sixth District in Congress.2

Her federal priorities include protecting the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid, lowering medication costs and preserving abortion access.1 She also supports equal pay, investment in smaller businesses and a tax system requiring large companies to contribute more.3 Randall faces Republican Teresa Fox, a maritime safety professional campaigning on spending restraint, naval readiness, public safety and rural health care.4
