Lucas comes from a family that has farmed western Oklahoma for more than a century.

Biography

Frank Lucas was born in Cheyenne and is a fifth generation Oklahoman whose family has farmed in the state for more than 120 years.1 He and his wife, Lynda, have three children and five grandchildren, and their family belongs to Cheyenne's First Baptist Church.1

Lucas graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1982 with a degree in agricultural economics.1 He served five and a half years in Oklahoma's House before winning a special election to Congress in 1994.1 He chaired the House Agriculture Committee from 2011 to 2015.1

Lucas was the House sponsor of the 2014 Farm Bill, which became law that February and changed farm assistance programs, including price and revenue protection.2 He now chairs Agriculture's Conservation, Research and Biotechnology subcommittee.1 His conservation work includes urging simpler voluntary programs for farmers and examining watershed and flood prevention programs.3

Lucas also chairs the Financial Services task force on Monetary Policy, Treasury Market Resilience and Economic Prosperity.4 He says its work should examine monetary policy tools and structural reforms to safeguard Treasury markets' role in the global financial system.4 His district spans northern and western Oklahoma, from the Panhandle to parts of Tulsa and from Mustang to Altus.1 He faces Democrat Suzie Byrd for Oklahoma's Third District seat.5
