Biography

Frank Pallone grew up in Long Branch, the son of a police officer, and still lives in the Shore town where he was raised.12 He attended local public schools and earned an academic scholarship to Middlebury College.1 He and his wife, Sarah, married in 1992 and have three adult children.2

After Middlebury, Pallone earned a master's degree at Tufts University's Fletcher School and a law degree at Rutgers in Camden.3 He practiced law before building a political career on the Long Branch City Council and in the New Jersey Senate.3 He won election to the House in 1988, including a special election following Representative James Howard's death.3

As chairman of the House Health Subcommittee in 2010, Pallone helped write and pass the Affordable Care Act.2 He later chaired the full Energy and Commerce Committee from 2019 through 2022 and is now its ranking Democrat.2 His work as chairman included the Inflation Reduction Act, which authorized Medicare to negotiate prices for selected prescription drugs.2

In 2026, Pallone supports restoring enhanced Affordable Care Act premium tax credits and moving toward Medicare for All.4 He opposes the Iran war and supports a citizenship pathway for undocumented residents who meet requirements involving residence, taxes and their legal records.4 Republican Hillary Herzig challenges him in the district covering parts of Monmouth and Middlesex counties.4
