Biography

George McDermott's working life began far from congressional campaigns: his candidate questionnaire lists a bakery job in Newark in 1960.1 He reported completing technical school there in 1963 and working as a contractor, developer and business owner beginning in 1967.1 His listed community roles include past service as a Forest Heights Baptist Church trustee.1

His later public work has centered on victims' rights advocacy, court proceedings and government accountability.2 He publishes videos and documents through SecretJustice and has described reporting for Maryland Court Watch News beginning in 2010.31 His website presents that material as part of his effort to challenge what he regards as failures in the justice system.3

McDermott is making his 12th consecutive bid for the 4th District seat.4 He competed as a Democrat from 2004 through 2012, then as a Republican beginning in 2014.4 This year's campaign follows another general election challenge to Glenn Ivey in 2024.2

His published platform emphasizes enforcing constitutional limits on the executive, legislative and judicial branches.3 He argues that public officials' oaths create obligations citizens should be able to enforce, and calls for public education about those responsibilities.3 Court accountability remains the organizing theme of his campaign.3 He faces Democrat Glenn Ivey.5
