Harriet Hageman

Hageman grew up working on her family's ranch near Fort Laramie, one of six children.

Biography

Harriet Hageman grew up on a Wyoming ranch and earned a livestock judging scholarship to Casper College.1 She continued her education at the University of Wyoming, earning both her undergraduate and law degrees there.1 In a 2026 interview, she named her father alongside Ronald Reagan and Donald Trump as her political heroes.2

Before Congress, Hageman spent more than three decades in private legal practice, concentrating on water, property rights and natural resources.1 Her clients included the Shoshone Project in Wyoming's Big Horn Basin.3 Her Senate campaign identifies that courtroom experience as preparation for reviewing federal judges and the officials nominated to lead agencies such as Interior, Agriculture and Energy.2

Hageman entered the House after winning Wyoming's sole congressional seat in 2022.4 She now chairs its Water, Wildlife and Fisheries Subcommittee and serves on Judiciary.1 In 2025, she introduced the Grizzly Bear State Management Act, proposing removal of the Greater Yellowstone grizzly population from the federal endangered and threatened wildlife list.5

Her current agenda favors oil, gas, coal and uranium production, fewer federal regulations and a larger congressional role in writing agency policy.2 She also identifies permitting reform, the Farm Bill and defense authorization as priorities.3 She faces Democrat James Byrd on November 3 for the Senate seat opening with Cynthia Lummis's retirement.4

Record and controversies

Bar grievance not investigated

In 2022, Wyoming's State Bar declined to open a disciplinary investigation following a grievance about Hageman's statements on the 2020 election and January 6.6 Bar counsel distinguished political speech outside court from the courtroom statements that had prompted disciplinary cases against other attorneys.6
