Biography
Jake Auchincloss grew up in Newton, where a second grade teacher fed his interest in American history with books.1 He still describes himself as a student of that history, alongside being a father of three children with his wife, Michelle, and owner of a Labrador named Donut.1
After Harvard, Auchincloss joined the Marines, commanding infantry in Afghanistan and leading patrols through villages contested by the Taliban in 2012.1 In Panama, he commanded Marines and Colombian Special Forces in combined training that included drug interdiction exercises.1 He also earned an MBA in finance at MIT.1
Auchincloss won election to Newton's City Council in 2015 and was reelected twice, chairing its Public Safety and Transportation Committee.1 His private sector work included cybersecurity and housing and transportation projects at Liberty Mutual's innovation lab.1 In Congress, he serves on Energy and Commerce.1
His current legislation includes a bipartisan proposal called the Patients Before Monopolies Act to separate pharmacy businesses from pharmacy benefit managers and health insurers.2 Auchincloss and the bill's other sponsors say the plan is intended to reduce conflicts of interest in prescription pricing and support independent pharmacies.2 He also supports U.S. alliances and assistance to NATO, Ukraine and Israel.1 He faces Republican Thomas Stalcup.3
