Jared Moskowitz

Moskowitz is a lifelong sneaker collector who helped create the Congressional Sneaker Caucus.

Biography

Jared Moskowitz's sneaker collection began with trips to the mall with his father, waiting for new Air Jordans.1 He told GQ that wearing them in Congress helped keep that shared interest present after his father's death.1 He also helped launch the bipartisan Congressional Sneaker Caucus, inviting colleagues to connect over something besides politics.1 He also helps lead the Congressional Dog Lovers' Caucus.2

A Broward County native and Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School graduate, Moskowitz lives with his wife, Leah, and their two sons.3 He studied political science and public policy at George Washington University and earned his law degree at Nova Southeastern University.3

His public service began on the Parkland City Commission while he was in law school, followed by Florida's House and Broward's County Commission.3 As a state legislator, he helped pass the 2018 school safety legislation that included raising the firearm purchase age and risk protection orders.2 Appointed Florida's emergency management director in 2019, he worked on hurricane recovery and the state's COVID response.2

Now serving on Judiciary and Foreign Affairs, Moskowitz supports lower property insurance costs, protecting Social Security and Medicare, and banning congressional stock trading.23 He faces Republican former Boca Raton mayor Scott Singer in the redrawn 25th Congressional District.4

Record and controversies

Pandemic aid oversight audit

Florida's March 2022 statewide audit found that FDEM had not performed required monitoring of Coronavirus Relief Fund recipients, covering more than $1.2 billion distributed in fiscal 2019 to 2020 and 2020 to 2021.5 The agency attributed the failure to staffing shortages, accepted the finding and described planned monitoring improvements and an established process for reviewing recipient audits.5 Moskowitz announced in February 2021 that he would leave the director's job at the end of April.6 In 2026, he defended his work and noted the report followed his departure.7
