Jeff Hurd

Hurd's first job was bagging groceries at Grand Junction's City Market.

Biography

Jeff Hurd's first job was bagging groceries at City Market in Grand Junction, followed by other jobs stocking shelves, serving food and waiting tables.1 He and his wife, Barbora, returned to western Colorado to raise five children after a period living and working elsewhere.2

Hurd graduated from Notre Dame and earned law degrees at the University of Denver and Columbia.2 He clerked for federal appeals Judge Timothy Tymkovich and worked at Sullivan & Cromwell in New York before building a western Colorado practice representing rural electric cooperatives and other community service providers.1

His local work has included chairing the Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce and serving on legal aid and judicial selection bodies.1 Barbora also studied law and grew up in communist Czechoslovakia, an experience his campaign discusses as part of the family's perspective on democracy and public service.1

Hurd emphasizes rural employment, housing, affordable energy, reliable internet and protecting Colorado's water, while advocating limited government, free markets and individual rights.1 He faces Democrat Dwayne Romero, a Western Slope business owner and Army veteran, in a race drawing on both candidates' local professional and public service backgrounds.3
