Biography
Jennifer Jenkins lives in Satellite Beach with her husband, a public school history and civics teacher, and their daughter, who attends Brevard Public Schools.1 Her father worked as a corrections officer, and her mother lived with a disability.1 Jenkins and her husband have both worked multiple jobs, according to her campaign biography.1
A speech language pathologist, Jenkins holds certification from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.2 Her work in public education included supporting children with disabilities and developmental needs.3 Her professional advocacy has included stronger special education funding for students and families.2 She has also emphasized support for educators and public schools.3 She won election to the Brevard County School Board in 2020, defeating an incumbent who later helped found Moms for Liberty, and served four years.3
In 2024, she founded Educated We Stand, an organization supporting public education and local school leadership.2 After initially pursuing other federal races, she shifted to Florida's 8th Congressional District following the state's new map and qualified as its Democratic nominee.2
Jenkins proposes a federal backstop for catastrophic hurricane risk, with insurers required to pass savings to policyholders.3 She also supports broader Medicare drug negotiations, Affordable Care Act subsidies and Medicaid expansion.3 She faces Republican Congressman Mike Haridopolos in November, with public education, affordability and accountable government central to her platform.3
