Biography

Jenny Costa Honeycutt grew up on James Island, surfing at Folly Beach, swimming with the Fort Johnson team and hunting with her father.1 She and her husband, Trey, have three children, and she has also coached youth sports.1 Her family attends James Island Christian Church, and her childhood also included weekends with her great grandparents at Lake Moultrie in Bonneau.1

After Ashley Hall, Honeycutt studied political studies and communication at Meredith College and earned a law degree at the University of South Carolina.2 During law school, she researched proposed legislation's impact on businesses in the governor's office.1 She practiced at a statewide law firm for eight years before opening Costa Honeycutt on James Island.1 She is also a circuit court mediator certified by the South Carolina Supreme Court.1

First elected to Charleston County Council in 2018, Honeycutt chairs its Public Safety and Housing Special committees.2 Her community work also includes the Junior League of Charleston.2 She says her son's decision against returning to the Lowcountry, partly because of affordability concerns, helped motivate her congressional campaign.3

Honeycutt supports suspending federal and state gas taxes, controlling spending and reducing inflation.3 On healthcare, she argues that greater competition and stronger efforts against fraud would improve affordability and access.3 She faces Democrat Nancy Lacore and Libertarian Bill Reeside.4
