Jessica Killin

Jessica Killin grew up in Colorado Springs with two public school educators for parents and weekends spent camping, hiking and skiing at Monarch Mountain.¹ Later, while working full time as a USAA executive, she was raising her daughter, Cora.¹ Her campaign describes those experiences as central to her concerns about household costs and opportunities for military families.¹

A Falcon High School graduate, Killin attended college on an ROTC scholarship and became an Army captain, paratrooper and military police officer.¹ She served overseas and participated in peacekeeping work in the Balkans before earning a law degree at Georgetown.¹ Her later work at USAA included policies involving VA home loans and protections against payday lending to service members.¹

Killin served as a legislative aide to Senators Bill Nelson and Tom Carper, then as chief of staff to Representative Donna Shalala.² In the Biden administration, she was a deputy assistant to the president and chief of staff to the second gentleman.³ She is now challenging Republican incumbent Jeff Crank for the district covering most of El Paso County.⁴

Her proposals include reversing Medicaid cuts, increasing VA clinic staffing and extending a $35 insulin price cap to everyone.⁵ She also advocates protecting federal public lands, strengthening Colorado Springs' space industry and increasing wildfire resources.⁵ Her ethics agenda calls for banning congressional stock trading, ending members' pay during government shutdowns and strengthening independent oversight of Congress.⁵
