Biography
Jill Tokuda and her husband, Kyle, are raising two sons in Kaneohe, where the boys attend the same public schools their parents did.1 Their household also includes Bailey, a chiweenie, while Tokuda's family connections to the district reach back four generations to immigration from Okinawa.21
The first in her family to attend college, Tokuda earned an international relations degree at George Washington University before serving in Hawaii's Senate from 2006 to 2018.1 She chaired Ways and Means and worked on early learning, school health services and protecting important agricultural lands.1
Her work outside the Legislature included technology workforce development at CyberHawaii and external affairs at the Nisei Veterans Memorial Center.2 In Congress, she serves on Agriculture and Armed Services, helps lead the Bipartisan Rural Health Caucus and is the senior Democrat on the agriculture conservation, research and biotechnology subcommittee.1
Tokuda faces Republican state Senator Brenton Awa in the Second District.3 She supports more military housing, including capacity for civilian workers, and tax changes favoring residents who occupy their own homes, while advocating immigration reform with border protections and legal pathways to citizenship.34
