Biography
John Day and his wife, Amanda, have four grown children, three still at home while attending college, along with a dog and four cats.1 Day links his decision to run for Congress to a February house fire that destroyed much of the family's property.1
Born in Shreveport and raised in Lake Charles, he graduated from Sam Houston High School and served in the Navy from 1994 through 1998.1 His subsequent work has included business development, consulting, insurance, finance, real estate and hospitality, with time in California as well as Louisiana.1
He has worked with Do Good on hurricane recovery and now writes professionally.1 His campaign also describes work coordinating a film project with the Coushatta and Choctaw tribes.1 An October profile identifies him as the national sales director for a heavy equipment outfitting startup in Lake Charles.2
Day faces Republicans Clay Higgins and Kate Cotten, fellow Democrats Caleb Walker and Priscilla Gonzalez, and Tia LeBrun.3 LeBrun is listed with no party affiliation.4 He emphasizes lower insurance costs, faster FEMA assistance, coastal protection, rural health care and prescription affordability.5 His platform also calls for protecting Social Security and Medicare benefits and opposing cuts to those programs.5 He also proposes investment in skilled trades, apprenticeships, ports and film production jobs, while supporting legal immigration pathways and stronger border enforcement.5
