Biography
Jon Ossoff shares his Atlanta home with his wife, obstetrician Alisha Kramer, and their daughters, Eva and Lila.12 He grew up in the Atlanta area and was mentored by Congressman John Lewis before entering elected politics.21
He studied at Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service and earned a master’s degree from the London School of Economics.1 Before working in journalism, he was a national security aide to Congressman Hank Johnson, handling defense and economic policy.1 He became CEO of Insight TWI in 2013, leading a company producing investigations of corruption, organized crime and war crimes.1 Its subjects included human trafficking and the diversion of international food and medical aid.1
In the Senate, Ossoff worked with Republican Mike Braun and Democrat Dick Durbin on the Federal Prison Oversight Act, signed into law in 2024.3 It requires independent prison inspections and establishes a confidential channel for complaints from incarcerated people, families and legal representatives.4 He also voted for the 2025 Laken Riley Act, whose House sponsor was his current opponent, Mike Collins.5
Defending his seat against Republican Collins, Ossoff supports restoring enhanced Affordable Care Act insurance subsidies and opposes the Medicaid reductions enacted in 2025.5 He opposes Trump’s tariffs and supports federal infrastructure and manufacturing investments, arguing they can help Georgia’s economy.5 Their tax debate centers on the 2025 tax and spending law: Collins backed it, while Ossoff opposed it.5
