Biography

Jonny Larsen grew up in a Salt Lake City trailer park and entered foster care at 13 before his grandmother took him in.1 He credits her union pension, Medicare and Social Security with giving their household stability, an experience he connects directly to his support for protecting those programs.1

Larsen joined the Marines at 17 and served as an infantry rifleman from 2000 to 2004, reaching sergeant.1 He deployed twice to Iraq, serving with the 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines and later the 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines, before returning to civilian work.1

He worked his way into hospital systems and network administration, then used the GI Bill to study applied mathematics and physics at the University of Utah, leaving before completing his degree when funding ran out.1 At home, he keeps bees and chickens, tackles remodeling projects and cares for a Great Dane named Duke and three adopted kittens.1

Larsen faces Republican Representative Mike Kennedy in the redrawn Fourth District, describing himself as a Blue Dog Democrat.2 He supports ending the Iran war, reducing tariffs that raise construction costs, solar energy and stronger safeguards for water resources, while arguing that residents need more say before additional data centers are built.2

Record and controversies

Late candidate disclosure and subsequent filing

The Campaign Legal Center asked the House Ethics Committee on September 11, 2026 to investigate Larsen's missing disclosure as part of a broader candidate complaint. KSL reported that he filed on September 21.3 Larsen said an address change left him without the packet and that he filed once he learned of the problem.3 A complaint is a request for investigation. No public committee finding or penalty was verified in this review.
