Josh Brecheen

Brecheen grew up around cutting horses and qualified twice for a national championship competition as a young rider.

Biography

Josh Brecheen is a fourth generation rancher from eastern Oklahoma who grew up in the cutting horse business.1 As a young competitor, he qualified twice for the National Cutting Horse Association's Eastern Championship.1 He later trained cutting horses and raised performance horses.1

An Oklahoma State University agriculture graduate, Brecheen served as Oklahoma FFA Association state president from 1998 to 1999.1 He also ran Brecheen Keynotes and Seminars, a speaking business that addressed school, university and conference audiences.1 Before Congress, he owned and operated a small excavation and trucking business.1

Brecheen worked for U.S. Senator Tom Coburn for six years before serving in Oklahoma's Senate from 2010 to 2018.1 Elected to Congress in 2022, he chairs the Homeland Security subcommittee on Oversight, Investigations and Accountability and serves on the House Budget Committee.12 He also belongs to the House Freedom Caucus.2

Brecheen calls for reducing federal borrowing and eliminating spending he considers wasteful.3 His border position emphasizes legal entry and immigrants' assimilation into American life.4 On energy, he supports ending government subsidies for green energy and reducing regulations on oil and natural gas producers, arguing that expanded American production strengthens national security.5 He faces Democrat Brandon Wade and independent Ronnie Hopkins for Oklahoma's Second District seat.6
