Biography

Justin Murphy grew up in South Jersey's Pinelands and still calls the region home.1 He enlisted in the Navy at 17 and served four years aboard the destroyer USS Comte de Grasse, including six months in the Persian Gulf during the war between Iran and Iraq.2 He now lives in Tabernacle Township.1

Murphy graduated from Rowan University and earned his law degree at Widener.1 He has practiced law since 2006, working in areas including estates, real estate, contracts and energy consulting.2 His work history also includes Medford Gym & Aerobic Center.1

Elected to the Tabernacle Township Committee in 2000, he served a three year term and was a deputy mayor.21 His political work included county leadership for the 1996 Dole and Kemp presidential campaign and volunteering for Bret Schundler's property tax reform effort.2 After an unsuccessful 2024 Senate nomination bid, he won the Republican primary in June 2026.2

His platform proposes replacing the federal income tax system with a flat rate of 10% to 12% and abolishing the IRS.3 He also advocates abolishing the federal Education Department, expanding school choice and giving individuals portable health savings accounts.3 He faces Democratic Senator Cory Booker on November 3, seeking to replace an incumbent first elected in 2013 and help determine the Senate's partisan balance.1
