Biography
Katy Padilla Stout and her husband, Austin, are raising four children, two adopted through foster care.1 Her family history includes a father and grandparents who worked as migrant farmworkers in South Texas.1 She grew up in San Antonio with a single mother and spent time with her father's family in Carrizo Springs.2
After earning an education degree at the University of Texas at Austin, she returned home to teach in Northside ISD.1 Her first year included teaching 15 children from 12 countries after an unexpected influx of refugee students, an experience she later described when explaining her work with families.2
She earned her law degree from South Texas College of Law in 2013 and built a practice representing children in foster care.3 She has served on the Bexar County Child Welfare Board since 2017 and also serves on the board of Artvango Therapeutic Services, which uses expressive therapies to help children affected by abuse and trauma.1
Her platform calls for universal preschool, paid parental leave, expanded Medicare coverage and pathways to citizenship alongside border security.3 She also wants Congress to reassert authority over tariffs, arguing that unilateral tariffs raise family costs.3 The Democrat faces Republican Brandon Herrera and independent Ben Mendoza.4
