Kenneth Casner

Ken Casner and his wife run the Elk Mountain Trading Company and Crossing Cafe in a small southeastern Wyoming town.

Biography

Kenneth Casner lives in Elk Mountain, where he and his wife own the Elk Mountain Trading Company and Crossing Cafe.1 He was born in Cheyenne in 1950 and describes himself as a third generation Wyoming working man, with a father born in Laramie and a mother born in Cottier.2

Casner is a Vietnam veteran who served in the Wyoming National Guard for 25 years, including 12 years teaching within the military.1 In October, he told Wyoming Public Radio that he had run a small business in Elk Mountain for 28 years and wanted more support for young couples trying to open businesses of their own.2

This is his third campaign for governor, following bids in 2002 and 2018.1 His proposals include universal healthcare and a state income tax, alongside support for public school funding and history education.13 He has said he will accept no campaign donations.1

Casner calls election access his leading issue, arguing that people should be able to enter primaries without joining a political party.2 His healthcare outline includes connecting rural clinics and using telehealth.2 He faces Republican Eric Barlow and Constitution Party candidate Rebecca Bextel in a contest that includes competing approaches to property taxes and the local services they finance.4
